Reaction Paper Instructions:

I need to finish the second half of the paper, which is the subtopic CLASSICAL THEORIST. Here you must tie together the main points of the summary with the ideas of the classical theorist, which in this case is Herbert Spencer. Present how the classical theorist's contributions are applied by the modern theorist who wrote the article. In this paper the article is"India's Sacred Cow" by Marvin Harris. Illustrate how the modern theorist depended on the ideas of the classical theorist and how, without the ideas of the classical theorist, the article could not have been written. I want to focus on the cultural relativism in the article. I will send you the article, any question please email me. Also i'm going to send you the rest of my paper so you can tie in the classical theorist part in.

Introduction
Cultural practices influence the manner in which individuals live their lives. In India, for instance, many of the citizens are poor, and they lack the basic needs such as shelter, food, and clothing. Ironically, though, is the fact that one is likely to find a ragged farmer who is starving to death, but he owns a fat cow he cannot convert into a meal and spare his life. Cows are highly respected by the Hindus because they are a symbol of all living organisms. To them, spiritual values are more important than even the life of a human being. Experts’ reports indicate that cow worship is among the leading causes of death and extreme poverty in India. Although cows are highly respected in India, they do not contribute to the growth of the economy because they do not give meat or milk to the Indian people.
Summary of the Article
Agronomists who have been trained in America and Europe say that the taboo against cow slaughter only gives room for the survival of millions of animals which do not improve the lives of the Indian people. The animals do not give milk or meat, and all they do is compete for the few resources available. The cows are not managed in any organized manner and are likely to be found in all corners of the streets and are a primary cause of traffic jam. In developed countries where farming methods largely depend on technology, the cows would be kept on a farm where it is easy to feed them and also keep track of their progress. Other than that they will also not be a cause of traffic jam in the major cities.
In a country like India, where there are so many cows ,the population of oxen is expected to be very high, however, this is not the case as there 40 million fewer traction animals. Oxen and water buffalo are used to plow the land and is a big deficit would mean the practice of agriculture is not effective. Borrowing animals does not improve the situation because rain may come before the animals finish plowing. For a peasant farmer in India, whose oxen fall sick, it could mean that they are likely to lose their lands as they have nothing to farm for them anymore.
