Anarchism
Anarchists consider the state as harmful, needless and undesirable, and rather encourage stateless societies or anarchy. It is worth mentioning that anarchism is based on the observation that because few people are sufficiently wise to rule themselves, even fewer men are sufficiently wise to rule other people. This response paper is essentially a reaction to the provided prompt and includes support from the readings. Thesis statement: anarchism is useful as anything as a source of protest against something. Anarchists are usually engaged in advocating a stateless, classless, self-managed society with no rulers, bosses or borders: a society in which everybody assumes collective responsibility for the prosperity and health of themselves and as well as their environment.
Anarchism useful as anything as a source of protest against something
Anarchism rests on the dogma that nobody has a right of controlling by force the action of somebody else. Anarchists maintain that “government and state are synonyms, and both are enemies of freedom” (Hoffman & Graham 254). Freedom, to an anarchist, means freedom to decide how to live one’s own life, freedom from unwarranted authority, freedom to seek a better future with other people, among others. In essence, anarchist freedom denotes a rejection of unilateralism and domination. To many observers, countries in the West are already upholders of justice, equality and freedom. As a result, a lot of people might appreciate anarchist norms basing on face value or non-agreed upon connotation, yet not accept practiced anarchist norms. Anarchists strive for freedom without damaging other people’s freedom. Murray Rothbard and other free-market anarchists believe that “state welfare is as destructive as state warfare”, adding that any attempts “to regulate production prevents consumers from purchasing commodities that they wish to buy” (Hoffman & Graham 242).
Anarchism is particularly against capitalism. The emergence of capitalism came with it the emergence of new power techniques as well as a new type of exploitation: the labor-wage relation which separates the producer from the product of his labor comprises the proletariat as a class. This fracturing of the social sphere produces a binary opposition of 2 classes. It also produces an array of enmities, a major heterogeneity of conflict, which include fractures along the lines of race and gender that mutually inflect each other. In capitalism, the interests of people who are in control of the means of production and who live on the exploited labor of the majority are in fact incompatible with the interests of that majority.
The capitalist’s freedom to mount up wealth is essentially opposed to the freedom of the worker, which could only be totally achieved by eradicating the socio-political function and role of the capitalist. By protesting agains...
