Personal Statement
The elementary school level of education is the first stage of education and is vital according to the National Education Association (NEA). Kindergarten teachers just like the other teachers have numerous responsibilities vested in them. Kindergarten teachers have to subscribe to teaching students who have never been in a school setting before. The teachers should be able to teach the basic skills that will help the kid succeed in subsequent education levels. Working with children can be a daunting task that requires immense amounts of energy and patience.
My ambition to become a kindergarten teacher was realized when I was taking care of my first child. I quickly realized my love for children and wanted to be around them for longer. This led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and later a master’s degree in the same. I fully understand the individual requirements of children at that age because I have over three years’ experience in working in a children’s day care facility.
I have a full understanding of the curriculum requirements that are demanded of me for the kids. I am also fully aware that students at this level of education should be allowed a hands-on experience and creative play into their daily classes. The extracurricular activities at this stage are just as important as the education curriculum. Working with children has enabled me to be aware of what children find to be fun, and I can recreate this at the classroom level to improve their social skills, reading, and hygiene and so on.
In addition to all the knowhow that I have gathered over the years, I have the teaching credentials required obtained from the Childhood Development Associate (CDA) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Teaching kindergarten level is both a moral and political act. It is moral because the kindergarten level is not mandatory but is recommended for the sake of the child’s development. At the same time, it is a political act by the fact that it is under statutory law and should be adhered to.
I believe my application requires attention because it is centered on children’s early life and their unique needs. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) recognizes the importance of early childhood education and regards it as important because the brain develops more at this stage in the child’s life than any other in the life of a human being. My involvement with children at this point in their life will develop their foundation for social skills, perception, social esteem as well as their cognitive skills development. First things first, I want to become an elementary school teacher because of my love for kids and that everything about them brings me enthusiasm.
