In her journal titled Agents of Imperialism: Missionaries and Merchants in Early-Ninteenth-Century Hawaii, published in 2007, Jennifer Fish Kashay argues that, in the somewhat exploration of Hawaii, merchants and missionaries had different objectives. Merchants aimed at drawing profit from the Hawaiians, whereas the missionaries aimed at bringing the Hawaiians closer to Christ. By comparing the merchants to the missionaries, in respect to their objectives, Jennifer Fish Kashay, reveals the manner in which these objectives became obsolete due to the converging of the competing objectives. Her purpose is to expose the schemes, and strategies the merchants and missionaries used in order to realize their objectives, which later failed. Jennifer Fish Kashay positions herself as an expert in the field of history and wants to reach out to the historians, including the Hawaiians with an aim of taking them back to their early life.
