Reaction Paper #2 Child Welfare (Reaction Paper Sample)
Each student will also be expected to prepare four, two-page reaction papers consisting of reactions to ALL of the assigned readings for weeks six, seven, eight, and ten. Rather than summarize the readings, these short papers should reflect your intellectual and/or emotional reactions to the major points covered in these readings. Another way to approach these reaction papers is to identify one or more key points/themes in the reading that struck you as powerful, moving, or, otherwise, worthy of attention. Though these papers can be written in the voice of the first person, they should reflect graduate-level work. Students should be prepared to discuss the readings and their reactions to them. Papers should be submitted online in Canvas before the class period in which they are due.
They should be double-spaced typed and in 12-point, Times New Roman font. The maximum credit for each reaction paper is four points. Point deductions are often the result of writing errors and students failing to use their fully allotted two pages for their paper.
REACTION PAPER #2
In the study by Murphy et al. (2017) there were four interventions that were singled out as effective approaches to improve children welfare and reduce substance use among parents. These interventions were: Family Treatment Drug Court (FTDC), Family Treatment Drug Court plus additional services (FTDC Plus) (Murphy et al., 2017). Child welfare interventions targeting families are crucial for family reunification, but there is a need for more comprehensive research on the effectiveness of the interventions to reduce substance use and impart positive parenting skills. A qualified team of practitioners to work together and cooperate to improve child welfare, whereby there is feedback on progress of children protection, family reunification lower risk of substance use among parents/guardians.
There is increased risk of child maltreatment when there is parental substance use and there have been efforts to reduce this with various stakeholders working together. The child welfare agencies are important for reunification but there should be more focus on co-occurring issues of substance abuse and child maltreatment during and after intervention. Children and adolescents are at higher risk of child maltreatment and neglect when there is also intimate partner violence. Substance abuse treatment interventions targeting women improve outcomes better when there is integration of child welfare services. It is necessary to evaluate whether the parents can assume their parental roles after treatment for substance use and how the families’ situation is likely to influence child outcomes.
Substance abuse problems among parents, especially mothers with children and maternal dependence on substances increase
