Humanistic geography, which is largely a positive perception of the relationship between humans and the earth, was a key concept discussed by geographers in the 1960s and 1970s. Humans are imaginary beings. The development of humanistic geography came about when people started questioning the deficiencies of spatial science. The decisions made by an individual are largely influenced by the imaginations one has on their mind when presented with a situation. As it has been and will be when a new ideology surfaces, the scholars of then began critiquing humanistic geography. Although there was criticism, pro humanistic geography such as Anne Buttimer argued that the rise of humanism was due to the conviction that there must be more on human geography. It is therefore important to note that moral, theoretical and epistemological values and or levels were used to justify the existence of humanistic geographies by the early scholars.
The inspirations that led to be development of humanistic geography were attributed to phenomenology and existentialism. The concern was to discover what things really are and make sense of occasions and even situations. It was also about the intention of speaking of something is in existence in the world. The other key aspect of humanistic geography was the issue space and place. It is the objective definition of point in space and it shows that the point in space has a meaning attributed to it.
