REACTION PAPER INSTRUCTIONS
Write a short (1-page, ideally) paper in reaction to the assigned material (audio/video
lecture, scholarly paper, popular science article). Your paper should include:
• A paragraph summarizing the theme of the lecture/paper, including KEY facts. Write
this as though you were giving an explanation to a friend who hadn't read/heard the
material. Be sure to keep the summary objective and factual. Provide detail that
supports the theme, but do not discuss in detail any single aspect of the work.
• A paragraph describing your reaction to the work. You can focus on any or all of the
following questions:
! How does the assigned material relate to ideas discussed in the course? How
does it add to what you have learned from the textbook/lectures?
! How is the material related to specific problems in our present-day world?
! How is the material related to your life, experiences, feelings, and ideas? For
instance, what emotions did the material arouse in you?
! Did the material increase your understanding of a particular issue? Did it change
your perspective in any way?
• A summary paragraph evaluating the merit of the work: the importance of its
points, its accuracy, completeness, organization, etc. You should also state whether
or not you would recommend the material to others, and explain why.
• Format:
! Top left corner of page: Your full name, course ID and section, name of
assignment (e.g. Integrative Assignment 2), and date
! Use minimum 12-point font, double spaced, 1-inch margins on all sides
! Proofread for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and language usage.
! You should not need to refer to any outside references to complete this paper,
but if you do, be sure to cite them in-text and provide them at the end of the
paper in APA format.
