Happiness in Relation To Work
Happiness makes life worth living. Societies are better with happiness as an ingredient of each member. They live longer and feel a sense of satisfaction as it involves brightening people’s lives. The article ‘Europeans work to live, and Americans live to work (who is happy to work more: Americans or Europeans?)’ was authored by Adam Okulicz-Kozaryn and published in the Journal of Happiness Studies. The article relates working hours to life satisfaction then weighs the results after thorough observation and research on the daily lives of Europeans and Americans. The results of the study show that Americans enjoy working more since they gain more as compared to Europeans. This adds more facts to light after involving all aspects, including economics.
The author believes Americans are happier working while Europeans love leisure alongside vital work. The belief of the author is looked into according to past researches where to some, Americans work more due to their tax rates while to others they work more, and since their tax rates are lower than in Europe, they get more to themselves. Social mobility was also looked into to answer economic questions, and it proved to be higher in the United States than in Europe. The conclusion made was that people do things that make them happier in a better way, like the Americans who are happier working, but still, unionization counts, and Europeans are more unified at work.
The study is being fueled by the thought that earlier researches did not test the statement that increased work makes Americans happier than Europeans, which gave an urge to prove it.
