Reaction paper to “Moral Heuristics” by Cass Sunstein (2005)
Cass Sunstein’s paper on heuristics and their relationship to moral judgements made me examine them from a different point of view. Heuristics according to Sunstein are mental shortcuts that are used by people to try and rationally answer questions that they have no extensive knowledge about based on the most probable outcome they can think of using their own intuition. I agree with Sunstein’s explanation about the use of heuristics and their different influences on political and legal issues (Sunstein, 2005).
I was impressed by the writer’s explanation on attribute substitution where he suggests that heuristics give rise to an intuition rather than being influenced by it.
