The student is asked to review an item of professional, peer-reviewed literature over a topic the student chooses in Psychology (see How to Find a Journal Article handout for instructions on how to find a journal article). The student must then construct a reference in APA Format for the article he/she read (see below for details). The student will then type a one page (double spaced) summary of and reaction to the articles (exceeding one page will result in penalty). The student must complete 2 reaction assignments. Each is worth 50 points.
Grading Rubric:
5 points: Choose a research study from a peer-reviewed journal.
15 points: Paragraph 1 will summarize the research, describing methods and outcome,
using NO quotes from the article.

4 points: The main point is clearly stated in the first sentence.

3 points: A clear final summary statement ends the paragraph as its last sentence.
5 points: Grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and word choice are in proper
English.

4 points: A main point is clearly stated in the first sentence.
3 points: At least three thoughtful middle sentences support the main point.
3 points: A clear final summary statement ends the paragraph as its last sentence.

Citation in APA format: match to details in the list and example below. Some computer generated citations say APA-style, but are not correct. Do not use a computer generated citation.
2 points: Author indication is correct identifying authors by last name first followed by first and middle initials. “&” is used only before the final author in a list. Author indication ends in a period.
1 point: Year is included, no month, in parentheses followed by a period.
3 points: Article name is included using lowercase appropriately, and a capital letter after a colon, and is followed by a period.
3 points: Italicized Journal Name is included using capital letters appropriately and spelling out the word “and.”

The article by Bartsch, Davies & Proeve, (2016), titled Understanding the Experience of Parents with a Diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, explores a study that investigated the experience of parents with children diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder to assess some of the barriers of accessing resources of parenting support. The qualitative study reviewed the experience of parents with children diagnosed with BPD. Seven mothers and one father were interviewed during the study. The study outcomes revealed parents experienced both challenging and rewarding experience. Even though some parents reported experiencing difficulty in providing a stable environment for their children, others reported to have had a rewarding experience. However, accessing supportive services for parents limited their parenting role because their mental illnesses were not treated.
