Retention timber harvesting is the most practical approach that can be utilized to improve the sustainability of timber production in the country, as it restores ecological values to sustain the life of plants and animal species in diverse forest areas. Adopting and implementing the retention harvesting approach has numerous advantages, including economic costs where forest timber manufacturers can only harvest the required number of logs. Accordingly, the technique can encourage post-treatment measures, including prescribed fire practices and tree planting, to conserve the forest areas in the environment. Also, it observes and supports biodiversity measures during timber production endeavors by protecting and increasing retention levels in various animal habitats, including wood frog, Canada lynx, red squirrel, wolverine, fisher, woodland caribou, and black bear (Franklin, 2023).
