The authors measured the value of a screening policy over an individual’s lifetime when considering the state j = 0, 1, 2. The researchers make the assumption that the patients do not develop breast cancer symptoms and if they do they fail to act on this. They also measure the mortality risk under specific policies for the patients being as cancer-free.
