The articles by the authors Binet, Limber and Wilcox, Zapp, Yoshida and Van der Walt touch on various areas of education. The four articles outline the various factors and forces that influence education and the ways that this affects the child or learner in the end. They largely deal with how global education is governed in order to make it accessible to all.
The article “The World Bank and Education” by Mike Zapp argues that the World Bank plays a big influential role as far as governing global education is concerned. I defined the problem; the author notes that some researches have only given attention to the role of the World Bank as a regulatory and coercive force while ignoring its influential role in helping to shape educational knowledge. For instance, the article notes that the World Bank has in the recent past concentrated much on the production of knowledge by investing in educational research. Also, the bank ensures that the knowledge gathered is disseminated to the public in the form of published conferences, journals and books (Zapp 2017). The author further points out that the World Bank influences global education through lending out money for research and for scholarships that are related to education. The author holds the perspective that the World Bank practices of producing, managing and transmitting educational knowledge culminate into educational governance (2017). In making this assumption, however, the author fails to take into account the use of qualitative methods in researching education but instead only focuses on limited quantitative methods. Also, the article does not also consider the role played by other organizations in influencing global education. Overall, the article is enlightening as far as understanding the role of the World Bank in education is concerned.
The authors Yoshida and Walt in the article “The policy-implementation-results linkage for education development and aid effectiveness in the Education 2030 era” argue that the concept of inclusion and the focus on the learning outcomes are the major objectives of the educational development agenda of Education 2030. According to the authors, developing countries are unable to meet these objectives because of international aids that fail to look at the missing link between the implementation of policy and the results produced. The article further adds that this problem is also caused by the inability of those people directly handling the learning process to call for reforms from the policymaking systems and institutions.
