Introduction
The film 12 years a slave is an accurate depiction of the slave system and also the manner that slaves were being treated. The setting was in the eighteenth century, and the movie highlighted the evils of the particular master and also the various religious ideals of some of these individuals. The paper will review the significance of the film and even the multiple issues that were presented in the movie.
Summary
The film mainly narrates the story of Solomon Northup as a free back man that was kidnapped and later on sold into slavery. It follows the twelve years of hardships that Northup faced that included a miserable life as an African American slave.12 years a slave also highlights the cruel treatment that Northup and other fellow blacks faced in the harsh slavery system. Northup eventually was set free and returned to New York whereby he reunited with his family. This film depicts the harsh conditions that most slaves went through and also illustrates the brutality that the whites had over slaves (Mocanu, 2015). It also describes the manner that a person can be resilient and determined enough to persevere through all these tribulations.
The movie shows how the masters inspected slaves, and if healthy enough, they were sold at reasonable prices. Even children were subjected to inhuman inspections and later on sold to buyers in specific market places. It illustrates the brutality of the whites that ruled over the slaves. It also demonstrates how an individual can be so resilient to persevere through all this harsh treatment (Mocanu, 2015). In the movie, slaves were checked whether they were healthy enough to be sold at reasonable prices, and buyers may make some bargains before making the choice of buying any slaves.
