(Required Question) Economics is my number one career choice. My interest in economics started way back when I was in middle school. My father who works in the finance department at Hyundai Heavy Industries could come back home from work in the evening and perform complex financial calculations. Watching my dad everyday play around with figures arose a strong desire in me to study economics. This interest was further fueled by a desire to understand what GDP meant because my father used that term often during our little father to son conversations. The fact that I studied in an international school in China while I was born in Korea and managed to visit different countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, and Honking made me realize that countries have different economic status. Therefore, I grew up hoping that one day I would understand more about GDP and the criteria used in ranking countries economic situation.
The United States of America is known to be at the top of the list in GDP world ranking. As a result, I have always wished to study in the US and experience the feel of living in the richest country in the world. It is also a privilege to study at the center of the world’s economy, which is the United States. Therefore, securing an admission into the University of California would not only fulfill my dreams but would also grant me an opportunity to interact with a diverse community of students representing different cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Moreover, the reasons for my passion for studying economics do not only involve understanding the concept of the economy but also to enable me to apply the knowledge in practical situations. It has been my dream since I was young to become an actuarial analyst; to be able to calculate probabilities and analyze costs associated with specific events like death, injury, property damage among others. In addition, everybody wants to be a millionaire, and I am not excluded, but to achieve this, I have to learn the fundamental basics of economics to learn when and how to spend money without making losses.
(Question3) I have exceptional leadership and analytical skills. My leadership skill is demonstrated throughout my childhood and high school periods. During my early years, my father narrates that I used to protect other children from being bullied by the older children. He tells of an incident where I received a punishment on behalf of another kid in kindergarten. As if that is not enough, I was made the captain of the football club throughout the period I was in middle school and high school. Furthermore, I am currently the chairperson of a youth group I initiated in China. The aim of the group is to source funds to start Small Business Enterprises. My leadership skill is natural and I often found myself being chosen to lead in various activities; for instance, my classmates voted me to be their class president in high school.
