This week you've gotten an idea about how a bill becomes a law. Sometimes it's a quick process, while other times bills may not make it very far or may take a long time to pass. (There are currently almost 8000 bills or resolutions now before Congress!)
This assignment is meant to get you to see a little bit more about the process of passing a law.

Click on a title of a law that interests you.
Create a short summary of the goal of this law in your own words.
Use the following questions to summarize how your legislation got passed:
Who introduced the legislation? What party do they belong to?
When did it go to Committee? What Committees did it go to? How many Democrats or Republicans are on each Committee? (Check out the Committees link).
When did it pass the House? If the information is available, how many Democrats and Republicans voted for or against this legislation? How many didn't vote (abstained)? (Check out the House Votes on Passage link on the bill overview page.)
When did it pass the Senate? If the information is available, how many Democrats and Republicans voted for or against this legislation? How many didn't vote (abstained)?
When did the President sign it?

H.R. 776 Amendment Bill: Emergency Medical Services for Children Program Reauthorization Act of 2019
The Congress, composed of senate and house of representatives, is a legislative branch of the federal government that has the mandate to create and pass bills. For an idea to become a law, there is a deliberate process a proposed bill has to go through. The steps include the introduction of Bill, referring the bill to respective committee, subject for passing in the house of representatives and the senate and signing by the president. The above proposal was intended to amend the Public health service Act and reauthorize Emergency Medical Services for Children Act. The time it takes to pass a bill into law depends on many factors such as its complexity, committees involved, its intended impact and urgency, among others.
