Review "Example Leadership Models." As you review the models, consider what you think are the most significant differences between servant leadership models and other models. Unique Characteristics of servant leadership and how to these elements make it different from other leadership models?
Servant leadership is unique because of its philosophy that leaders are servants. Servant leaders are servants first and this is one of the major unique characteristics of the model of leadership. Instead of getting drunk with power and using their authority to have things done within the organization, servant leaders put the needs of other people before them. They do not allow their positions to dictate their actions but lead through compassion.
Another characteristic that makes servant leadership unique is the fact that they are great listeners. Every leader listens. However, servant leaders give employees their time and pay attention to what they are saying. Active listening is a trait that is common with servant leaders as they try to understand their employees and resolve conflicts. Their goal is always to make their employees feel involved and empowered. Through listening, employees feel their concerns and outcries are heard.
Servant leaders are also conscious of their strengths and weaknesses. It is not common to find a leader who is comfortable with their weaknesses. The majority will try and conceal their weaknesses.
