Greek and Roman Name: Institution: The Annals written by Tacitus, a Roman historian, and a senator, examines and explains the history of the Roman Empire during the rule of Tiberius to the reign of Neo. This history dates back from 14-68 AD. It is important to note that the Annals provides an essential source for the modern comprehension and understanding of the history of the Roman Empire. Tacitus clearly explains the rule of terror under the scandalous Tiberius, the great fire of Rome during the time of Nero and the wars, misconduct, and conspiracies which constituted part of imperial life. Tac. Ann. 1.1 Explains the history and the governorship of Rome. He says that at the beginning Rome was ruled by kings and explains how Lucius Brutus helped in establishing freedom and consulship in Rome. The dictators were held for a temporary crisis, and the rule of the decemvirs did not also last for more than two years. He also explains that historians and intellects failed to record the success and reverses of the Old Roman People, especially during the times of Augusts because of the growing sycophancy which scared them. I believe that this programmatic section sets the tone for the rest of the work. Tac. Ann. 3.26-28 Describes that man in the earliest age lived at a time when there was no share or guilt, no vicious impulse and without punishment of restraints. Additionally, there were no rewards for things done as desired. During this time men desired nothing against morality.
