The Tale of Genji
The tale of Genji is an ambitious and graceful narrative describing the influence of women and love matters of the 10th century. The tale entails delightful psychological actor portraits, sensual imageries of Japanese nature, and a religious principle founded on life transition awareness. His isolation turns to be paradoxical and reveals that he is detached from the community because of the sensibilities. The isolation becomes the full circle when he exiles himself in Suma. He retreats into nature as a therapy for his distress over the affair with his father’s wife. The isolation and appreciation of nature is a way to seek solitude and clarity to prove him to be a romantic hero.
Most of the poetry by Genji has nature Imagery such as Romantics and are metaphors for love. Shikibu reminds the readers how Genji is received in society. The tale implies that the poetry is regarded as unparalleled. ...
