According to the author, notable “mothers” are those that performed different actions that positively affected the lives of their children. As is evident, Meng’s mother provides an example of proper raising of children due to the sacrifices made to provide a better life for Meng. She creates a suitable environment for her son Meng to thrive and become knowledgeable in their community. Tirong on the other hand was viewed as wise due to her language used in the letter pleading for mercy on her father’s behalf. Through her actions, corporal punishment that was a tradition was later removed thus saving her fathers life. Therefore, Tirong was viewed to have much more knowledge by her ability to demonstrate truths that were already known to people in the kingdom. Zonghli Chun, on the other hand, provided advice to the King on fortifying the palace thus securing the country. Despite her looks that did not enable her to get a suitor, she was wise and saw far beyond everyone else. She was able to understand the most important aspects that required fast action while everyone else concentrated on luxuries for the King. These women each showed their ability to understand situations and provide solutions. Despite the odds, Zonghli and Tirong were able to convince kings to change their minds and follow their lead thus bettering the society that they lived in.
