SPECIAL PROJECT #1 – The First Presidential Debate – “Debate Watch”
Directions: The first presidential debate, which will be viewable on most local and national networks, as well as live streamed online, will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, @ 8:00 pm CST, and is scheduled to last 90 minutes. If you are unable to view it live, as it happens, record it, or it will also be available for viewing after the fact on many online websites and venues like YouTube. Six (6) topics have been pre-selected for the debate, and while subject to change, hopefully will not. The number of categories that you will address have been reduced to four (4) for this “Special Project” activity [a. The Supreme Court; b. COVID-19; c. Race Relations and Violence; and d. Election Integrity and Security]. Watch the debate in its entirety in order to accurately complete the charts below. *Please remember that I will also be watching! Under the designated columns, you are to thoroughly summarize both candidates’ point of view on each topic, and then add your own two cents (each box should contain - 1 paragraph min 6-8 complete sentences; 2 paragraphs max 8-12 complete sentences). You must also answer the 4-part critical thinking question. Abbreviated,  yes/no or  short answers, or  utilizing “baby sentences” with no substance or details [e.g., I watched the debate. It was good. I liked what so and so said. I have not changed my mind about who I am voting for. I don’t plan to vote, etc… etc… etc…] ---in an effort to save you time or skimp on the assignment, are not acceptable and you will receive ZERO points for such. College level writing skills should be evident. Boxes will expand as you type. This assignment is worth 100 points (each section is worth 20 points). If any section is omitted, overlooked, or forgotten, the deduction will double from 20  40 points for that section. Sections with partial and not full or complete answers will also receive double 20  40 point deductions for being incomplete]. Keep in mind that the critical thinking section requires 2-part answers for many of the questions asked. This assignment is due on Wednesday, October 14, 2020. Do not submit the directions page, only pages that contain your answers which should not exceed 3. Do not create your own template, you must use the one posted in the Learning Web Fall 2020 Resources Folder. A CANVAS link will be provided for the assignment file to be uploaded by the due date.

Special Project #1 – U. S. Presidential Debate Compare/Contrast
Donald Trump Joe Biden Student
a. The Supreme Court
Trump states that they have a phenomenal nominee respected by everyone: Justice Barrett would take the supreme court to places: she is a top academic. The reason Trump wants to replace Obama Care is because he has a better option to offer Americans. His healthcare plan is to cut drug prices. He intends to help the people. No matter how Obama care is run, it’s a disaster.

Americans have a right to choose who the supreme court nominee will be.
Justice thinks the affordable care act is not in the constitution. Obama care should be expanded. The president is not concerned with the health of Americans: he is denying them the chance for better health by taking away Obama Care. The president has no plan for healthcare.

Biden is concerned with the threat Justice Barret poses on the Affordable Care Act. I somewhat believe that Americans should be allowed to decide who they want to fill this position. Especially because this is an area that covers the health of Americans.

b. Race Relations & Violence
Trump mentioned that Bidden referred to African Americans as super predators. Trump says he is letting people out of jail. Ended racial sensitivity training because it was racist. He believed the issue of homicide is a party issue. Trump admits he is willing to shut the white supremacist causing chaos in the country. However, he says that the problem is not a right-wing problem but a left-wing problem.

Trump has done virtually nothing to protect African Americans. Instead, he has encouraged racism. There is systematic injustice in the country in education, work, and law enforcement. Biden refers to Trump as racist. He states that the sensitivity trainings were important. The police should regulate how much force they use on unarmed civilians. Riots, chaos, and violence help Trump’s course.

Trump’s idea to end the racial sensitivity training to me was not a good idea. The fact that he says that the trainings were dividing people somewhat seems untrue. This does not mean that Biden is right.
Both candidates were misleading with their statements on what sparkled protests or what causes violent unrest in cities.

c. COVID-19 [Coronavirus]
He argues that had Joe been left to take charge, millions would have died. He claims that the virus outbreak was China’s fault. Because Trump barred countries like Russia, China from going into the U.S, he claims Biden referred to him as racist/xenophobic. He did a phenomenal job by saving thousands of life though he gets terrible press despite all this. The vaccine will be found a lot sooner than expected. Joe could never have done the much Trump did.

Biden states that the President has no plan. Trump knew about the virus being deadly from back in February. However, he never informed Americans about it. President Trump was panicked hence did not take the necessary precaution. The government should place funds for ...
