Provision of care to Alzheimer patients may influence the caregiver’s daily life. As these patient’s continue to deteriorate on a daily basis, and continually lose one function to another, their families and caregivers encounter issues related to problem solving, tests of stamina and resilience. Nurses have a role to play in creating awareness to these patients and their families on measures to undertake when dealing with this condition (Wayne, and Jeanne Segal, 2013). For instance, patients and their families should be informed on the significance of maintaining both physical and emotional fitness and maintaining a safe environment for such patients. Caregivers should prepare themselves, understand the experiences of the patients, and liaise with health practitioners and other people to offer the necessary support.
The nurse should emphasize to these families the importance of setting a safe environment for Alzheimer patients. This is because such patients are mostly confused and wander aimlessly in a particular place. Therefore, caregivers should be informed on how they may adapt the patient’s environment in various ways to prevent harm and accidents (Clark, 2013).
