Based on a study that had been conducted on an ongoing basis at a British psychiatry hospital by Khalid and associates (141), ECT has been proven quite effective in the treatment of patients who have depressive disorders that are very resistant to common treatment. More than half the patients in the study were recorded to have achieved remission according to Khalid et al. (145).
The pros and cons of ECT have long been an issue with some studies indicating that it can be an effective way to cure clinical depression that has lasted more than six months.
