Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
* Explain how the WW2 began
* Why women enrolled into the military
* Explain the activities that women engaged into while serving in the military during the war.
* Explain the gender role transformation before and during the WW2
“Do Now” or Motivation
Initiate a discussion about gender roles among the learners
Every ethnic group has its definition of what gender roles entail. Students coming from diverse backgrounds will be excited to narrate their roles at home and explain whether their roles differ from those of their siblings of the opposite gender. The teacher will randomly choose the student to inform the class about their roles and the roles of their fathers. The instructor will also prompt the learners to recall the roles of their grandparents and compare whether there have been any changes in how these roles were defined and divided among the members of a family.
Introduce an emergency situation
The instructor will introduce an emergency situation, such as sickness, or a natural calamity. The instructor will then direct a question to the boys on whether they can do tasks associated with women. For example, the instructor will ask the learners whether they can do house chores when their sister is sick. The instructor will then rephrase the question to the girls and ask them whether they can do chores perceived to be for men if a man in their lives was sick. For example, since the society expects men to be the breadwinners, the girls may be asked a question such as whether they can go out to work and leave the man to take care of the home.
Discuss about war
The instructor will give the learners an opportunity to discuss about any war that they have either read in books or watched in films. The discussion will center on the activities of different people during the event.
