I chose season 10 full episodes of the Undercover Boss, which was released on 12th November 2020. The business focused on is Smoothie King, and its chief executive officer (CEO) is Wan Kim, who bought it in 2012. Smoothie King is a $500 million a year business headquartered in Dallas, Texas (Undercover Boss US, 2020). Kim bought the company in 2012 and has increased its production and profitability over the years. The two job positions that the paper analyzes include a store manager and a shift leader.
Smoothie King’s store manager hold significant responsibilities since the person performs all duties of a trainer, shift leader, and team member. The individual manages about 6 to 20 members and oversees, evaluates, and assigns all duties to other workers (“Store Manager,” 2021). Moreover, a store manager prepares the team and ensures that the company procedures are followed appropriately. On the contrary, a shift leader schedules who will work at a specific time and assists team members to serve the customers. The person makes sure that the products provided meet the quality standards and that the premise is clean all the time. Furthermore, a shift leader carries out product promotion or marketing programs and brand identity.
I conducted a job analysis for a store manager and shift leader at Smoothie King by using two primary data collection methods, namely surveys and qualitative researches. In particular, a store manager is needed at Smoothie King to manage team members, ensure high-quality product standards, train new team members, and manage daily operations of the premise. For a person to be a store manager at Smoothie King, one must have at least two years of management experience, the stamina of standing around 8 hours daily, the ability to resolve customers and team member issues, and can handle high-volume operations (“Store Manager,” 2021). In contrast, a shift leader is crucial at Smoothie King since the individual ensures that all team members report to work on time and that they handle their respective duties well.
