Discussion on Music by Guillaume Machaut
Guillaume Machaut was born in 1300 and passed on in 1377. Machaut served King John Luxembourg as a court assistant and later on became an administrative court employee. Machaut was a mid-fourteenth century music composer who came up with the chant, Agnus Dei meaning prayer for mercy and peace. Machaut became the first person to compose a polyphonic mass ordinary, Agnus Dei, in the 1360s (Leach 1). The chant became famous and therefore listed as a regular song in the worship service at the Cathedral rems owing to its solemnity and elaboration.
