Concert Review: In the Woods
The UB Center hall was not full. It is one of the biggest theaters the school built and can rarely be full. However, the first floor was fully occupied with other people spilling to the first balcony. Drama and music were entertaining as people waited for the performers. Real actors would bring into stage what the people have seen on television screens and heard on radios. As I walked in, I noticed the audience carrying books, having a collection of songs from the book, Into the Woods. Interest was to watch action into musical lyrics. Curiosity had driven most people because it was a new type of performance they were to experience for the first time. Unlike other concerts, most people are settled and not searching for space because of the large size of the hall.
Instrumentation was well coordinated with the actions, and the lyrics that accompanied the fairy tales. In the Woods are fairy tales that are performed in a musical form. It can be likened to the Cinderella performances. Most people were citing love for Cinderella, and when information reached them, In the Woods was taking a similar format; they had the desire to watch the plays and music in telling the stories.
People welcomed the artists with applause as they came to perform. The change was observed when the performers of In the Woods got in. A collection of stories they have read were now on musical performance, combining the works of several writers. They appeared charged as well because of the welcoming. Several murmurs are heard as the audience hint curiosity in them. The slow movement that introduced us to the first scene of the characters like Baker and his wife who are in a need of a child invited a dull mood. Most of the people watching appeared to be moved by this desire. It showed the natural affection that they had towards babies as a bond in the family. A similar situation, though funny, is noticed when another character wishes his country would have had milk. These combinations of feelings were not by coincidence. They appear as well planned to have people attention fixed into the events of the day.
