As of today, poverty is still one of the main phenomena that the world tries to eradicate. Despite the countless innovations, research, and efforts to battle this phenomena, poverty just seems to be quite resilient and, us human, might find it hard to completely remove it especially because of our own trappings of the present. In my opinion, I believe that one of the main reasons why we can’t get out of poverty is because of how we are structured as a society as well as our reckless knowledge about ecology. In a distant view of our human institutions, what we know is that most of us lives inside a hierarchy. This order of humans would not be eradicated regardless of what kind of societal model that we utilize even if we subscribe to capitalism, communism, socialism, and so on and so forth. I believe that total removal of hierarchy is not possible because of our own drive as human beings to create a system that would safe (ex. Society) for most of us. On the other hand, the other reason why poverty continues to exist is because of people’s lack of knowledge about ecology and its main tenets. Based from our own understanding and study of other species and the immediate environment around them, most of these environments (niche/ecosystems) can only carry so much, a concept that we call as “carrying capacity” as we’ve tackled before in one of our science classes. If I remember it correctly, carrying capacity is the amount of unit (individual/organism) that a certain ecosystem could support. And, for us humans this carrying capacity refers to the whole Earth since we are one of the populations which occupy the largest niche/territory. Following from this, I believe that most of our main problems lies when most of us, humans, do not understand the concept of carrying capacity and continue to increase our population. We tend to continually reproduce (or at least mot of us) without thinking if our planet could still support us and the next generations in the future. By doing so, we push ourselves to limit the resources allotted for each one of us, while inciting an inevitable need to create a m...
