Letter to a Southern Baptist Minister
1. Wilson claims to be a "secular humanist" (para.3.). How would you define that term? Are you a secular humanist? Why, or why not?
A secular humanist is a person who bases their beliefs or life principles on non-religious secular doctrines. Secular humanists often hold onto science, reason, and believe that ethics is innate, unlike religion-oriented individuals who insist that God is the basis of life and all that pertains to it.
I am not a secular humanist. Unlike Wilson, I believe in the existence of God and that we exist only at His mercy and grace. I ascribe to the theory of special creation and have confidence in the fact that morality is not independent of supernatural sources. The ethical system is fixed because all over the world we ascribe to almost the same moral principles.
2. What does Wilson mean by "metaphysics" (para.6)? Which if any of his views qualify as metaphysical?
