DMS 496: Report of Internship

Name DMS 496 Professor Sarah Elder Feb 19th, 2019 Report of Internship Squeaky Wheel offers internship opportunities to qualified graduates and undergraduates. After the internship program is over, the students receive a free membership, job training and a mentorship in-kind. The organization has several departments which include; Arts Education, Communication, production and post-production among others. I was an intern in the education department for a period of 1.4-2.15. This report will explain in detail what I learned in Squeaky Wheel education department for the duration I was around. Squeaky Wheel is an organization in western NY that offers education, equipment access, and exhibition programming focused on exploring film and digital media arts. The organization was established in 1985 and has been growing each and every day nationally and internationally. Their mission is to continue a legacy of information in media arts through access, education, and exhibition. Their vision is to create a community that uses electronic media and film to celebrate freedom of expression and diversity of voice. Squeaky has won awards for best in workshops, exhibitions among others. The squeaky wheel is the best place to learn film and media arts. Education department does work across different media platforms to create awareness for the organization by uploading existing programs to attract people. As an education intern, I learned how to coordinate staff, designing and publicizing promotional materials for programs and emphasis on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. I also learned on how to add captions on YouTube and content editing on Facebook. But these were not my main tasks during the internship period. My main tasks were to shoot videos at media art workshop and make a promotional video of media art workshop. I learned how to use Canon 70D and 80D, and shoot high-quality videos of everything that took place in the workshop. I would also make a promotional video to market the media art workshop on social media. I learned video editing by creating the promotional video because I had to edit them before posting them on social media. I would also edit the videos of activities at media art workshop which enhanced my knowledge of video editing.
