The Effectiveness of Physiotherapy on Post-Operative Hip Replacement
Abstract
This scoping review examines the efficacy of physical therapy for individuals who have had total hip replacement (THR) surgery after femur or neck fractures. The study examines a broad spectrum of literature in order to pinpoint important findings, patterns, and areas of unmet need in post-operative rehabilitation research. Databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Embase, CINAHL, and PsycINFO, were all thoroughly searched. Six pieces of research with various methodologies and intervention modalities were included. According to the review, post-THR physical therapy procedures such as telerehabilitation and focused exercises help patients' clinical effectiveness, strength, and range of motion (Wu et al., 2023). Clinical effectiveness ensures that the medical intervention or treatment achieves the desired outcomes and benefits in real-world clinical settings. Individualized rehabilitation strategies and patient-centered care are increasingly essential, as highlighted by qualitative insights. Consensus recommendations stress the value of comprehensive perioperative care, which is in line with the ERAS® (Enhanced Recovery After
Surgery) principles. Despite the review's limitations in study diversity and reporting, its implications for clinical practice and future research are significant. Based on research, it is recommended that evidence-based physiotherapy approaches be incorporated into post-THR care in order to improve patient outcomes and promote all-inclusive rehabilitation techniques.
Objective: The purpose of this scoping review is to examine the effectiveness of physiotherapy for patients who have undergone Total Hip Replacement (THR) surgery due to a fractured neck of the femur. The goals include highlighting significant findings, patterns, and knowledge gaps and offering recommendations for therapeutic application and further study.
Design: Using a scoping methodology, the review systematically examines and synthesizes a wide range of papers concentrating on physiotherapy therapies post-THR after neck or femur fractures.
Methods: Multiple databases, including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, and PsycINFO, were thoroughly searched. Data were retrieved from the studies that met the inclusion criteria in order to evaluate study features, interventions, results, and qualitative insights. Thematic analysis was performed to synthesize the qualitative data, while descriptive summaries were employed for the quantitative data.
Results: Six papers with various approaches were included in the review. Clinical effectiveness, strength, and range of motion following THR were all improved by physiotherapy therapies. Individualized rehabilitation strategies and patient-centered care were stressed by qualitative findings. The significance of comprehensive perioperative care was stressed in consensus recommendations.
Conclusions: This scoping review's findings highlight the importance of including PT interventions grounded in scientific research into post-THR care. The review highlights the significance of customized rehabilitation treatments while highlighting similarities and variations between studies. The implications extend to clinical pra...
