The core reasons for women’s underrepresentation in STEM fields are social and environmental barriers as well as gender bias and stereotypes. The first way to solve this problem is by providing as many facilities to women as are provided to men. The second way is to unblock women’s progress by letting them decide what they want to study.
High-skilled career women opt out of the workforce because they are either not given good salaries or their parents or husbands do not allow them to do different kinds of jobs. The problem of using arguments in the workplace is also serious. The two possible solutions to this problem are keeping personal differences aside during the working hours and knowing how to give utmost respect and value to women.
Racial discrimination is discrimination based on one’s skin color. White people often refuse to stay with black individuals, and this problem is common in the United States. Devah Pager’s research has focused on institutions that affect racial stratification. These include labor markets, the criminal justice system and the education sector.
Globalization is the process of integration and interaction between people living in different parts of the world. This interaction can also be between governments and companies. This is often regarded as a multifaceted and complex phenomenon. The most prominent features of globalization are liberalization, free trade, globalization of economic activities, privatization and liberalization of import-and-export systems.
CSR or corporate social responsibility is a specific type of private business self-regulation that aims to contribute to different societal goals of an activist or charitable organization. Claims made by Ballinger suggest that the anti-sweatshop movement is not successful. This is because CSR is required to be integrated and aligned with the business model in order to be successful.
The claims of Dwight and Einhowner are that anti-sweatshop movements or campaigns should strictly help improve the conditions of employees in sweatshops. These include dealing with the problem of low wages and providing good working conditions for everybody. Extra facilities should be provided to children who work in sweatshops.
