Equity Theory

In the “Equity Theory in Close Relationships” Hatfield and Rapson utilized the interpersonal level of analysis approach to explain interactions in various adult male-female relationships. The theory is based on economic models and helps explain the link between behavior and emotion when there is inequity in relationships. Perceptions of equity and inequity also depend on belief about the risks and rewards that those in a relationship get. The thoughts and feelings about being involved in a close relationship may depend on what men and women get in the relationship and whether there is equity in the relations.
