Attachment 1 is a vacancy announcement for a Secretary position and attachment 2 is a vacancy announcement for an Interdisciplinary Scientist position.
Please read over each sample vacancy announcement and determine whether you would deem each applicant qualified for the position or not. There are three applicants for the Secretary and two applicants for the Interdisciplinary Scientist. Note, you may assume all Secretary applicants meet the 40 words per minute typing requirement. Please label each answer accordingly (Example: Secretary, Applicant #1; Interd. Scientist, Applicant #2, etc). Giving the correct answer is important, but we are also interested in the analysis you provide to describe your determinations.

Secretary, Applicant #1;
While the candidate has knowledge of using Microsoft Office her experience is mostly in accounting and accounting packages she is not qualified for the position. There is a need for more skills and experience to perform the job and since there is no information on experience in administrative work. Thus, the applicant is not well suited for the position. The secretary is expected to coordinate and work closely with the supervisors. Among the requirements for the chosen candidates is scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, managing the supervisor’s calendar , and many people can learn this, but the candidates has only been be an operations assistant and supervisor for a short period of time.
Secretary, Applicant #2
The second applicant has worked as an administrative office manager, personnel assistant, and human resource technician, and is suited for the position including and has supervised operations and has both technical and soft skills. The candidate has secret security clearance and has experience performing administrative work in the navy. Furthermore, the strong writing and computer skills are suitable as the selected candidate needs to produce various documents and type correspondence. In any case, the GS-0318-09 secretary position requires communication skills, leadership ability, administrative experience and experience in using computer applications.
