Class discussion centered on teamwork. After reading about the Wright Brothers and their Sister, what about their story relates to what we have been discussing in class?
The first thing that relates to the discussions we have had in class is the power of the human imagination. The Wright brothers imagined themselves flying and worked hard to make this a reality. They worked with federal funding and them not coming from a rich family shows that their resolve was driven by what they saw as possible. Nothing seemed impossible for them even as everyone was trying and failing to make the first airplane. Their story coincides with almost all other inventions and stories of innovation. People who have made a mark in the world have often been powered by their power of imagination. These people have strived and worked hard to prove doubters and their circumstances wrong and in the end managed to get to be successful.
Another issue that relates to what we have been discussing in class is the involvement of their sister. She was a strong woman and did everything to make sure the family was on the right track. She kept her brothers in check and is a testament to the stories of powerful women behind great successes. Her story can almost be compared to the women in the hidden figures. Even though her role can be and is often easily sidelined during talks of the first airplane, there is no denying that the brothers depended upon her far much more than is ever revealed. Aside from nursing her brother Orville back to health after a plane crash, Katharine helped him get back to his usual self because the crash had damaged him psychologically as well.
