Introduction
Bullying in the workplace is one of the most persistent, widely spread, and vaguely defined issue in the workplace. This ambiguity in definition makes it even more problematic since tackling with the issue becomes more difficult. Also, reports about cases of bullying can simply be an act of intimidation, used for its one’s own advantage. Furthermore, the author believed that bullying can come in many ways (gender, physical appearance, race, etc.), and can significantly affect the performance of an employee (Stagg & Sheridan, 2010). Based from the statements above, this article is dedicated in evaluating the effect of bullying to employees and how can it be mitigated.
Body
The author believes that it is important for researchers and workers to make a distinction between bullying and intimidation. Since the latter is graver, then this should be the one that is given more attention. Some of the evidences that I found point out that bullying can be abused by everyone (even though he/she is not being bullied). As an example, there are people who would file charges and complaints just for an act of intimidation that is addressed to them. This evidence supports the idea that bullying should be more defined so that efforts to stop bullying would not be wasted into mitigating single acts of intimidation.
My second main point in this paper is that there exist some individuals who would let them be bullied by others. This is because of the fact that they see it as easier than dealing with the bullies themselves. Plus, there are also some others who use it as an avenue to gain attention. Some of the evidences that I found points out high school students who deliberately let others make fun of themselves in order to gain attention from his classmates. There are also cases where they keep these instances of bullying, a secret since reporting it might entail negative results. This evidence proves that bullying is not a one-way act. There are people who let themselves be bullied for the sake of getting attention or to use it as a “social lubricant” ...
