Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate critical thinking by identifying main ideas and analyzing an academic text and using appropriate rhetorical styles, discourses and conventions to communicate and critique position and stance.
Content. For this assignment, you will write a 300-words-long summary, evaluation and analysis that demonstrates your understanding of the source and engages critically with the ideas presented in an academic text selected by your instructor.
Organization. Begin with an introductory sentence that briefly summarizes the source’s topic and main argument and provides a properly formatted APA citation. In the body of your critical analysis, present the key ideas/arguments of the source, assess the validity of the author(s)’s ideas and supporting evidence and explain whether you agree with them and why. Consider providing your counter-argument(s) and back them up with specific and relevant examples from the text.
General Requirements
• Follow academic conventions, that is paraphrase, use properly formatted APA in-text citations and the list of references;
• Follow structural patterns, that is use reporting verbs and framing statements, and provide transitions/connections of the ideas between and within the paragraphs.
• Balance objective academic language to describe and explain the ideas and subjective academic language to argue your point

The proliferation of social media platforms is a matter of course in everyday life. Today, almost no one is questioning why social media should be used. Instead, social media is accepted as a de facto medium of communication across social, racial, professional and generational lines. In a much similar way to any innovation, evils of social media are emerging and raising concerns about safety and security of users, particularly minors. This is an argument examined in more detail by Domke (2019). To put matters into perspective, a closer examination of Domke's argument is made.
