Thomas Jefferson once said that “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” He lived his words intelligently and portrayed in his decisions, truth, and trust everywhere. Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743, at Shadwell in Virginia. He was married to Mary Wayles Skelton with six children. In his life, Jefferson was a lawyer, president, politician, diplomat, architect, philosopher, and farmer amongst the many things he had passion about. His life showed significant contributions to the state with three main legacies; author of the Declaration of American Independence, father of the University of Virginia, and Statute of Virginia for religious freedom. The three represented independence, religion, and education. This is a short analysis of the life of President Thomas, and some of his significant contributions.
Being the founding father of America, writing the Declaration of American Independence was a substantial step to the liberty of the people. Jefferson was the first secretary of state, the second vice president, and the third president of America before he became president who drafted the declaration to freedom (Jefferson, 2018). To him, the presidency was not of any importance and did not include it in his major achievements. Being a lawyer and winning all his cases legally led to his election to the legislature. His first political achievement of the declaration was about equality regardless of a person’s state and color and that all had the same rights, and that became a vision for the whole world. That was a challenge to accomplish but was a foundation as America set the pace against oppression. In his presidency, he purchased the Louisiana Territory, thus increasing the size of the United States and supported Lewis and Clark’s expedition, which he is remembered to date.
