Part 1: Thesis statement
While the discovery of the New World and the subsequent increase in global trade was critical to promoting trade across the globe and hence more wealth, it had adverse effects on the indigenous people and African slaves.
Part 2: Outline
Three (3) major aspects that demonstrate Old and New World exchanges.
* The Old World obtained raw materials from the New World.
* The need for labor in the New World caused the development of the slave trade (M’baye, 2006).
* The displacement, torture, and murder of indigenous people as the Europeans seek to establish their supremacy in the New World.
Five (5) specific groups that were affected by this event
* The Europeans
1 Economic opportunities due to the availability of raw materials and precious minerals (O'Brien, 2004).
2 Acquisition of power over the natives. The Europeans had more superior weapons compared to the indigenous people, hence took advantage of their position to oppress and control the natives.

1 Forced displacement from their lands. While they were friendly to the people from the Old World, they were forcefully taken from their land to pave way for the Europeans to farm (Las Casas, 1552).
2 The emergence of diseases as a result of contact with the Europeans. The European diseases like smallpox and measles left a mark on the indigenous people

1 The increase in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The need for more laborers encouraged the expansion of the slave trade (Bertocchi, 2016).
