A birth plan is a document that guides a patient’s medical team on how they prefer to manage their labor pain. This document does not mean that the patient has full control of every aspect of labor and delivery and so the patient will have to adjust to any ideas that the birth team comes up with when necessary. It was developed to improve the relationship between patients and birth teams and also to give patients a sense of increased control during child births hence a positive childbirth experience.
Most women want to feel childbirth satisfaction by having a sense of control during childbirth and therefore they try to come up with a list of things that they want their caregivers to do or not to do.
