Tesla Engineering
Introduction and Background
Tesla’s primary focus is on the manufacture of electric cars. The company’s chief executive officer (CEO), Elon Musk, has steered the firm to where it is today. Tesla deals with energy generation, the creation of storage systems, and manufacturing electric sports cars (SEC, 2020). Currently, many people have started buying electric vehicles due to public awareness about global warming. However, electric cars sell at a higher price than conventional vehicles.
Objectives and Research Questions
Musk encourages product innovation at Tesla, which is the reason why the company has revolutionized the automotive industry (Furry & Dyer, 2020). The company competes with other well-established car manufacturers, such as General Electric and Ford. The most significant thing about Tesla’s cars is energy efficiency due to the product innovation by the engineering staff in the firm.
Research Questions
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate Tesla’s engineering expertise in manufacturing electric vehicles and understanding whether the company’s research and development team support product development. One of the greatest drivers of the electric vehicles market is technological factors. For instance, some of the things that can influence people’s perspectives on buying hybrid or electric cars are the implementation of smart grid technologies.
Literature Review
Even though many people want car manufacturers to incorporate the latest technology, they do not want something that would jeopardize their driving experience. Tenhundfeld et al. (2019) make it clear that the majority of individuals did not like the auto-parking feature of Tesla Model X since it was complicated to them at first and intervened in their autonomous driving experience. Additionally, the same issue was experienced with the implementation of the semi-autonomous system for Tesla Model S (Endsley, 2017). Many researchers have termed Tesla as a disruptive and innovative company. For instance, the firm was the first to introduce lithium-ion batteries on electric cars, which incorporates the latest cell technology (Ahmad & Khan, 2019). Tesla’s researchers used lithium-ion cells due to their longevity and the high energy density that comes from lithium metal cells, which make Tesla’s electric cars more efficient (Martin et al., 2020).
Method and Approach
The method used to investigate the engineering department of Tesla was a case study. The data was collected from different sources and analyzed to give results. Instead of conducting experiments, researchers considered contextual factors. The performance metrics of Tesla’s electric cars was done by considering customers’ feedback to determine whether the products met their expectations. Moreover, research went beyond the conventional lithium-ion cells and now includes hybrid cells that are more efficient (Martin et al., 2020).
Results
The primary thing that makes it easy to incorporate electric vehicles in the transportation industry is the implementation of smart grids to facilitate electricity distributi...
