Central Focus and Lesson Focus:
This unit will build upon students' prior knowledge of invasion games through a new invasion game, floor hockey. This unit will help students develop the following three concepts: passing and receiving, various stick skills, and offensive and defensive strategies for gameplay. This unit will help students develop the following skills: Students will be able to demonstrate basic skills and knowledge of floor hockey, including stickhandling, passing, shooting, and game rules. Students will be able to apply the learning from the unit to the essential question created in Outliers, How does the “Mathew Effect” in hockey contribute more to long-term success? Students will be able to demonstrate this learning when they finish the culminating activity of a 3v3 tournament and create a poster of why they believe the “Mathew Effect” in hockey contribute more to long-term success.

Teaching Styles/Strategies for Objective #1:
Demonstration: The teacher can demonstrate the proper technique of passing and receiving with an implement combination, along with locomotor patterns of running and change of direction, speed, and/or level.
Practice: Students can practice passing and receiving with each other in pairs or small groups, with the teacher monitoring and providing feedback as necessary.
Modified Games: The teacher can introduce modified invasion games such as lacrosse or hockey (floor, field, ice), where students can apply the passing and receiving skills they have learned in a game-like setting.
Teaching Styles/Strategies for Objective #2:
Lecture: The teacher can provide a lecture on the different cues for athletic positioning, neutral grip, and passing/receiving, and discuss how these skills contribute to success in floor hockey. The teacher can also introduce the concept of the "Mathew Effect" in hockey and how it can contribute to long-term success.
Visual Aids: The teacher can use visual aids such as posters, videos, or images to help students understand the cues for athletic positioning, neutral grip, and passing/receiving, and to illustrate examples of the "Mathew Effect" in action in hockey.
Peer Discussion: The teacher can encourage students to discuss and share their understanding of the cues for athletic positioning, neutral grip, and passing/receiving with their peers, and to consider how the "Mathew Effect" in hockey may contribute to ...
