An in-house PR specialist refers to an individual who conduct the public relation duties and responsibilities within a company. Particularly, an in-house specialist primary duties include designing, creating, managing and implementing PR campaigns with the specific aim of boosting a company’s position and image in the eyes of the public (Iliff, 2016). On the other hand, an account executive at PR agency refers to specials who handles all planned and public relations and activities and publicity companies on behalf of their principals.
The two distinct positions has some similarities as well as few transferrable skills. First, in both In-house and an account executive, the handling skills, personally trait and communication skills are considered as important requirements (Iliff, 2016). Also, in both positions, it is common to promote and praise the good activities and hide or defend the bad activities as it is the nature of the job.
In terms of differences, an in-house specialist is primarily tends to work for a single and specific purpose, which is to meet the employers’ set goals and objectives, whereas working as an account executive is all about working for an agency with two or more purpose that are; fulfilling the objectives and goals of the employer as well as that of the employer’s clients (Iliff, 2016). Another difference is that, an In-house specialist can be assigned to handle one client whereas an account executive is often assigned to handle several clients who might have different needs and schedules (Iliff, 2016). Lastly, an In-house specialist can be reporting to many bosses especially when one is at a junior level while an account executive can have a single manager or work in the capacity of an agent.
