Portfolio Project - Leadership
Introduction
Living in a small town in the western part of the county, I am currently the human resource officer for the local county office. I recently got promoted as the head of the human resource department managing a total of 15 employees. My cultural background acts as my guiding principles. These principles have guided me well for the past 10 years as a manager. I have been in top leadership positions for over 5 years, and my intention is to expand my knowledge as am currently perusing my master degree in human resource management. In other areas, I manage youth programme in the church working for the local diocese. The diocese consists of close to 45 churches located in 15 different towns spread all over the province. Formally, I have been the human resource officer managing community-based evidence interventions for children and young people with sexually transmitted infections. This essay highlights some of my capabilities of leadership including self-confidence, my leadership skills and traits, besides my approach to leadership. It also analyses my leadership styles in relation to the cultural awareness and integrity. The essay concludes by providing some of the recommended improvements that would increase my leadership potential.

Sternberg describes self-confidence as the judgment people make of their ability to accomplish a task (Sternberg, 1988). These are the judgments people make all the time. Based on my previous self-assessment, I can rate my self-confidence as being average. I am almost reaching where I would like to be because I feel am better off than before because of the improvement I have made in relation to self-confidence. I am confidence that I am capable of accomplishing most of the task assigned without any fear of failure. Having 10 years experience, I have enough knowledge to execute my duties according to the set standards. The experience gained from interacting with the community leaders and other women, is the motivation that makes me feel confident in my work. As much as the position I hold needs a lot of work experience, I believe that with proper guidance from my superiors who believe in me, I am capable of overcoming any challenges that might arise. After the mentorship process I believe my self-confidence will improve.
Leadership Traits & Skills
Many theories attempt to explain leadership based on trait approach, skills, and situation approaches.
