Power distance index (PDI).
All the member of a family accept and expect that power is unevenly distributed, from the father all the way the youngest child.
Individualism versus collectivism (IDV).
Persons within the society are expected to make their own choices and carry out their duties as individuals to contribute to the larger group, in the individualistic societies (The Hofstede Centre, 2013). While, back at home they are part of the family and are expected to contribute to the collective good of the family.
Masculinity versus femininity (MAS).
In the society, roles are more defined along the lines of gender. As such, when is more competitive and more assertive they are regarded as having a strong personality, while those that are more caring are seen to be soft and feminine.
