Part Two: Working for an electrical contractor, construction is the professional area I have interest in learning procurement and contract management in. We usually tend to create contracts with the General Contractors we work for as well as the subcontractors that will work for us. Some of the risks you may envision when negotiating a contract with a general contractor or a subcontractor can be a negotiating strategy and payment terms. When negotiating a strategy with either a general contractor or a subcontractor it is always a good idea to get your plan in writing before negotiating begins (Info Entrepreneurs, n.d). There are times when we have had a GC request work and give a verbal okay to proceed and when it comes time to process the change order request they play dumb and we loose out on all of the labor and material for that work. Payment is always one of our major concerns, if we do not get paid then we do not make money on our jobs. This is when we need to know what our priorities are when it comes to our money-making opportunities with the contract between the GC and subcontractor (NOLO Law for All, n.d).
