Introduction
Cargo Movement Operation System refers to a base-level system for combat support system that is used by the military for cargo movement in peacetime and passengers and cargo in the sustenance of contingencies. In the simplest sense, CMOS is a web-based military system which is mainly used for military freight. Moreover, the electronic reporting aspect of cargo movement in CMOS enables this system to be a very crucial component of the effort of the logistics community, especially in providing in-transit asset visibility (Bontea, 2017). The lead contractor or service for this system is the United States Air Force. CMOS helps the military to manage crucial information, to deploy planning systems, and to ship military cargo. Sub-functions of the CMOS include supporting packaging as well as preservation (Major & Townsend Jr, 2017). The system also enables inbound/outbound surface and air freight operations, airlift clearance authority functions as well as deployment passenger processing. Despite the complexity of the CMOS, the system is secure and efficient, but it needs special attention.
Server-Side Hardware Requirements
The system server required for this system is Hewlett-Packard (HP) Apollo 9000 Series 700 (9000/700) Model 750. The system also requires HP 9000 D-Class Enterprise Server with a super-minicomputer. Exterior or peripheral equipment that is linked to the central server is an Uninterruptible Power Supply and a system console. On the other side, the client workstations should include Windows microcomputers, R110Xi Series of RFID printer or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Intermec Printer, laser printers, as well as the Automated Identification Technology handheld terminal and docking station (Defense Transportation Regulation, 2017, p. 2). However, the ISO 18000-7 standard requires the DoD to use active 433 MHz RFID tags and passive 915 MHz EPC Gen 2 RFID tags.
Server-Side Software Requirements
The version of CMOS in use (for example 5.0) contains features for the client-server arrangement. The HP 9000/700 series, as well as the D-Class Enterprise Server, is the communications and database server that provides client support for the remote and local users of this system. Also, this server offers the users the largest part of the technical security controls in the system. For example, the server offers identification, authentication, access control as well as audits. This is enabled by the ORACLE RDBMS and the operating system (HP-UX).
Client-Side Hardware Requirements
The connectivity devices and routers are used for communications connectivity for all the sites. However, this usage depends on the existing networks at those bases. For instance, for one server situated at a base will be connected to the base LAN or data links by a multi-port router located at the Base Network Communications Center.
