1. The movie makes the point that:We were all looking for the moment when technology would overwhelm human strengths and intelligence. When is it going to cross the singularity, replace our jobs, be smarter than humans? But there’s this much earlier moment... when technology exceeds and overwhelms human weaknesses. This point being crossed is at the root of addiction, polarization, radicalization, outrage-ification, vanity-ification, the entire thing. This is overpowering human nature, and this is checkmate on humanity.Is there another tipping point that people have not foreseen until now, when technology and the greed of large organizations destroy human society as we know it. We can call it the “Point of Social Collapse” when society spins out of control and breaks down. What do you think about this observation – are we moving toward a “Point of Social Collapse?” Defend your answer.(5)

One commentator who reviewed the film said, “We all know the excruciating nightmare that is middle school, when all of a sudden you no longer take for granted what your parents tell you and decide that what you really need is to be considered cool or at least not a total loser by your friends at school. Now multiply that by the big, unregulated world of the internet. This is why there is a precipitous spike in anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide attempts by the girls of Gen Z, current middle and high schoolers, as much as triple in some categories.”Do you agree with this comment? Technology has already made the impression that it can replace humans in almost every aspect. The already seen automation within organizations, the development of robotics, and artificial intelligence generally show that technology is son set to overpower humanity and deprive them of employment. The point of social collapse is already here. Before the rapid evolution in technology, people used to hang out in the streets, visit each other almost every time and share social events. Today, facetime, video calls, and social media interaction have disrupted this sociality. People have moved from typical physical interaction to social media communication.
I agree with the comment as this is what society today has become. Many teenagers and adolescents have focused on social media much more and desire to meet their friends on the internet and share cool pictures, videos, and events. However, they do not know that some of the posts they see on social media are exaggerated or social media hype. Many youths take such posts seriously and desire to look like their peers on social media. When situations such as financial constraints or strict parents deter them, they quickly fall into depression and anxiety.
Social media using own psychology against an individual is when social media influence one to believe that they are perfect or inferior to others. Social media may give an individual life that is not their reality and make them believe the lie. Many people post on social media that they can make people see who they are, what they are, or set standards about their social status. However, their reality is that when away from social media, the normal life is never what they try to imply on social media. Others might be tempted to think that their peers are doing well while doing what they do on social media for publicity.
“If the service is free, then you are the product” is a phrase that refers to the art that people tend to view social media as a free service, but they fail to acknowledge that there is something they offer in return. For example, personal data is what most sites collect from the user. While you believe you are using social media as a free service, the personal data is being used somewhere for other reasons that may be earning the sites more income.
When one visits some sites on their social media account, the feeds start targeting the user. For instance, when one searches for designer shoes and clothes on their social media account, the site collects the information. It starts tailoring the feeds to give the user more options on the things they searched for earlier.
