Thought Paper – “This Emotional Life”
1. The Emotional Life
The award-winning movie ‘This Emotional Life’, not only scouts our minds and the desire of human beings in finding happiness, but also shows how happiness is not just desired by the universe but rather a biological requirement. However according to the WHO more than half of the United States population experience some kind of mental health issues in their lives. These are issues that limit their happiness. So why does happiness elude so many people? The movie This Emotional Life other than exploring our minds as humans, strive to give solutions to these problems and how to achieve happiness.
Notably in the three two-hour episodes: Family, Friends and Lovers examines the social relationships nature which are basically the secret to the happiness of human beings. The neurological and cognitive processes that are hindering our interactions are also in question in this episode. Through the young adopted boy from the Russian orphanage, shows us how his lack of attachment in his early stages of childhood made it possible for him to have relations that lasted for a long time. the newborn twins’ parents, the two women dealing with the workplace conflict stress, the couples in therapy over their troubled marriage and the teenager that is bullied all depict the significance of relationships and social connections.
Facing Our Fears on the other hand, depicts the obstacles that hinder our happiness and what measures can be taken in dealing with them. They generally include anger, fear, depression and anxiety which sum up to negative emotions. The woman with anger management issues has a hard time in maintaining any form of relationship ...
