Employee Motivation
The movie, ‘What Motivates Employees in Today’s Workforce’ was uploaded by Joni Daniels to help employers realize the difference between employees according to their age brackets and what they prefer as motivation. She explains that older people are motivated by security, a promise not to lose their job, more money, authority, responsibility, and a bigger office. Today people want to get involved in the advancing technology; they want to explore new dimensions, weekends off, flexibility in their work schedules, and training. She argues that using the same old methods of motivation causes demotivation to the younger workers.
The most effective methods today are those that value the younger workers like the technological exploration in work and training to be able to get skilled workers then understand their preferences to retain them since there are not enough skilled people for specific jobs. This is because the Millennials are more in today’s workforce. The older people are retiring, which means that the younger in their twenties are the ones taking over. The great danger posed by not using tactics that motivate employees is that they leave to greener pastures which interest them and offer the kind of motivation they want. The organization suffers as it costs it to lose well-skilled workers and to try to find new ones with the skills as there are not enough skilled people to employ. The movie tells the need to train workers and try to retain them by finding means of motivating them sufficiently, making the concept discussed a strength point of the movie. I would recommend the movie to all current employers.
